We were happy to participate in the 6th plenary meeting of the FLEXI-CROSS project in which WINGS is leading the Technical Coordination activities to present a toolkit that aims to assist border crossing while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the border management systems by ensuring that borders are secure from illegal crossings, smuggling, trafficking and other threats.

The toolkit presented at the meeting comprises of a tethered drone, an On-Board processing Unit (OBU) equipped with sensors, a citizen’s mobile application and a visualization platform, namely the WINGSPARK Plus platform, that assist in the management and efficient operation of the border crossing points in in real time. The WINGSPARK Plus platform and the related assets are used on top of the legacy systems that are based on biometric means.

WINGSPARK Plus provides a cutting-edge solution for border crossing points monitoring by utilizing data from different sources (cameras, drones, OBU, citizens app).

Leveraging on advanced AI and Deep Learning techniques, the system provides useful insights regarding aggregated traffic statistics and an assessment of the driver behavior. It also detects potentially dangerous situations in real-time and issues early warnings, while an intuitive dashboard enables administrators to make informed decisions based on human behavior and vehicle travel patterns aiming to minimize border crossing time.
